Contact Lens Consultation

Different to a Regular Eye Test

Thinking about trialing contact lenses? Schedule a contact lens assessment with your optometrist.

contactlens.jpgWith contact lens technology continuously evolving, almost every glasses wearer is suitable for contact lenses.

You'll need to book a Contact Lens Consultation with your ProVision optometrist if you would like to be assessed and fitted for contact lenses. An extended appointment is usually required.

If you decide during a regular eye examination consultation that you would like to proceed with a contact lens fitting, then your optometrist may be able to incorporate this into your appointment on the day depending upon his/her availability. Otherwise, you may need to return for a separate appointment.

Unless you require high prescription contact lenses, then you may be out of pocket for your consultation. Please ask for further details when you make your appointment.

Contact Lens Assessment

The assessment and contact lens fitting process for a new contact lens wearer is explained below.

Eye Health Assessment
In this first appointment you will have an eye health assessment which usually takes around forty minutes to an hour. It is particularly important that the tissue covering the front of your eyes (cornea) is deemed healthy. This is because contact lenses are placed over this area.

Contact Lens Fitting
Once you're cleared for wearing contact lenses by your optometrist, eye measurements will be taken. After discussing the different options available to you, a particular contact lens will be recommended. This will range from daily disposables, fortnightly wear, monthly wear and extendend wear (sleep-in) contact lenses. You will most likely be provided with a trial set at this point so you can give your new lenses a test run.

Contact Lens Training - Insertion, Removal and Care
Either immediately following your contact lens fitting, or a day or two later, one of your optometrist's staff members will take you through the process of how to insert, remove and care for your contact lenses. This can take some people longer than others to master, however, you can be confident that you won't leave until you're satisfied that you can do it on your own.

Return Check
Usually around a month after you begin wearing your contact lenses, you will be asked to return for an assessment so that your optometrist can check the functionality of the lenses and your eye health. Any questions or concerns that you are having with your contact lenses should be discussed at this appointment.

Assistance Always Available
If you have any issues or queries at all before you're due for your next visit, then contact your optometrist. Depending upon the nature of your query, a phone conversation with your optometrist or an earlier appointment will be scheduled.
