While many of us recognise the need to visit the dentist every 6 months for preventative dental care and the doctor for regular health screenings, we are generally less aware of the importance of regular eye testing.
When you have an eye examination, your ProVision optometrist will test your vision, the health of your eyes, as well as look for ocular signs of general health problems.
Many changes to eye health take place gradually and often go unnoticed or without obvious symptoms. Early detection of eye disease allows treatment before permanent loss of vision or even blindness occurs.
Take an active role in looking after your vision and eye health by having a regular eye test at least every two years.
If you wear contact lenses, you will usually be asked to return to your optometrist every 12 months for an eye health review.
Regular Eye Test
Your ProVision optometrist will assess your vision, eye health and look for ocular indicators of other health issues. Find out more about what you can expect from a regular eye exam.
Contact Lens Consultation
If you're interested in wearing contact lenses, you'll need a contact lens consultation. When you book an appointment, it is important to outline this request as more time is usually required compared to a regular eye test.
Children's Eye Test
It is recommended that children have a comprehensive eye examination with an optometrist before starting school and regularly as they progress through primary and secondary school. Read more about children's eye tests.
Advanced Testing
Retinal Imaging and OCT Scanning are now available from many ProVision optometrists to assist in the early detection and management of eye health conditions:
Retinal Imaging
A digital image of the back of your eyes is taken to assist in the detection and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and hypertension.
OCT Scanning
Similar to an ultrasound, this scan aids in the detection and management of macular degeneration, glaucoma, detached retinas and other eye disorders.
