In many developing countries there are not enough trained eye care personnel and there is insufficient infrastructure to support these desperately needed eyecare services.
Optometry Giving Sight funds the solution by supporting programs that offer not only eye exams and glasses in countries with little or no access to them, but that establish the infrastructure and human resources required for sustainable, quality vision care.
Optometry Giving Sight directs funds to programs in a range of countries including Sri Lanka, East Timor, Malawi, Mozambique, Peru, Nicaragua, Mexico, China, Vietnam, Indigenous Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Optometry Giving Sight supports the aims of Vision 2020: The Right to Sight, a global initiative that is aiming to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020.
In addition to ProVision's corporate sponsorship, individual ProVision optometrists assist Optometry Giving Sight in a number of ways including:
making regular personal or practice donations;
participating in the annual World Sight Day Challenge in October by donating eye examination fees and monies from associated fundraising activities;
inviting patients, staff and others to purchase a Gift of Vision;
donating their time and expertise on eyecare missions to target countries; read about one of our members here.
