injuries_emrgencies.jpgSafety First

Eye safety is generally not considered in day to day situations until an accident occurs.

Serious and permanent damage to your eyes and vision can be caused in the event of an eye injury.  Such injuries can include:

  • Corneal laceration
  • Damaged or ruptured eyeball
  • Foreign body lodged in the eye
  • Lid laceration
  • Blood in the eye (hyphema)
  • Retinal detachment following a blow
  • Traumatic cataract
  • Chemical burn

Some activities or working environments present a higher risk of eye injury, but wearing the right kind of safety eyewear can protect your eyes against serious and possibly permanent eye damage.

If you have a foreign body, an infection or swelling in or around your eye it is important that you go to your local ProVision optometrist for treatment.

However, if the situation is more serious and you have a laceration, an embedded foreign object (has penetrated or entered the globe of the eye) or bleeding you should go to your nearest hospital.
