Murray has been practising optometry for 46 years and has worked across a broad range of clinical settings, including general optometry, contact lens practice, ophthalmology, industrial eye care and aged-care services.
After graduating from the University of New South Wales in 1979, Murray began his career in Sydney before moving to Melbourne, where he developed extensive experience in contact lens fitting and worked alongside contact lens laboratories and specialist eye-care services. He later founded Associated Vision Consultants, which grew to provide optometric services across multiple locations in Melbourne.
Murray established Yarra Ranges Optical in Monbulk in May 2000 and has continued to develop the practice as an independent centre for comprehensive eye care in the Dandenong Ranges.
He was among the early Australian optometrists to undertake postgraduate training in ocular therapeutics and has continued to pursue advanced clinical education throughout his career. In 2026, Murray completed the Australian College of Optometry’s Certificate in Advanced Contact Lenses, earning the post-nominal CertAdvCL (ACO).
